Your Dream Team

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Romans 8:31 NLT

Dream Team . . . O. J. Simpson’s defense lawyers, a movie about sanitarium patients in their way to a baseball game in New York or the USA 1992 Olympic Gold Medal Men’s Basketball team. Any dream team is comprised of the best talent, commitment and a desire to win.

Throughout the years, God has been an unyielding support for those who call on Him. When God is for us, nothing or no one can stand against us. Any opposition, obstacle or oppression cannot be successful or sustained. God is our dream team. The prophet Isaiah confirms God’s commitment. He writes, “Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.” (Is 8:10 NIV)

What can we say about such amazing and awesome things?

He Gives Us Right Standing. We have an assured access to the Almighty. Simply put, God made us right. Paul wrote, “Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with Himself.” (Rom 8:33 NLT). Our faults or failures have no bearing on our standing before God. The apostle reminded believers, “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” (Col 2:14 NLT). We can “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence”. (Heb 4:16 NIV) Andy Stanley reminds us, “Right standing with God comes through faith in the promises of God.”
God is for us . . . we have access.

He Pleads Our Case. We no longer fear accusations because we have an Advocate. God will never listen to our enemy saying, “Let me tell you what your follower has done this time”. Paul gives us a confident assurance, “Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” (Rom 8:34 NLT). So, what happens if we fall, fail or falter? We are never condemned, but we remain confident in our confession. John tells us, “But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the One who is truly righteous.” (1 John 2:1 NLT).
God is for us . . . we have an Advocate.

He Gives Us Inseparable Love. Paul encourages us, “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Rom 8:35, 37 NLT). There is nothing we can do to make God love us more . . . and, there is nothing we can do to make God love us less. His compassion for us is not based in our performance, but in His pleasure. Jerry Bridges writes, “Our doubts do not destroy God’s love, nor does our faith create it. It originates in the very nature of God, who is love, and it flows to us through our union with His beloved.”
God is for us . . . we have His affection.

The Message gives us simple and significant claim, “So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?” (Rom 8:31 MSG)

You are on God’s team . . . and, it’s a defining dream team.
