Its Not About Me

Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Philippians 2:3-4 MSG Paul presents two choices. Two clear options that root themselves focused on our […]

The Heart of a Father

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. Luke 15:20 NLT Becoming a dad is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Once I think I have a […]

Time To Break The Mold

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalms 32:8 NLT I’m more of a “go for it” guy instead of a “guide me” guy. I recall whitewater rafting in Colorado. Our guide was very specific in how we should approach […]

Failures Don’t Define Us

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 NIV I can’t […]

Choose Wisely

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve . . . But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)   We make a lot of choices every day.   Our culture places a valued emphasis on the right […]

He Will Bend You

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:10   We’ve experienced the emptiness of suffering.  Our response can destroy dreams or determine destiny.   God has promised us His […]

Overcomers

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21   Ten words.  That’s it.  In these powerful and purposeful 10 words, we find an omission and commission that frames our purpose.   We have spent years hearing what “not to do”.  Often these are religious preferences instead of Biblical precepts.  We fight […]

The Goodness of God

“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” —Psalm 27:13–14   There are many days when I need to see God more clearly.  I need Him to cut away my cataracts of complacency […]

True Freedom

“Through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: and by Him all that believe are justified from all things” – Acts 13:38-39   The Apostle Paul spoke these words as “words of encouragement” to a gathering who thought their religious standards would grant them righteous salvation.  Paul was clear and concise.  There […]

Never Give Up

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see […]

Your Dream Team

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31 NLT Dream Team . . . O. J. Simpson’s defense lawyers, a movie about sanitarium patients in their way to a baseball game in New York or the USA 1992 Olympic Gold […]

Being a Transformer

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 NLT   We all want to “fit in”.  We find out what’s […]

Compassion Over Condemnation

Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” John‬ ‭8‬:‭10-11‬ NLT‬ Although it was in the 1970’s, I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting […]

Our Powerful Prayer Partner

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT   I wish I was good at prayer.  I try.  I’m committed to it . . […]
