No Wondering and No Wandering

This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you what is best for you, Who directs you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17 NIV   Our Olde English Bulldog, Lily recently hit the two year old mark.  She is playful, […]

Share the Wealth

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. Psalm 49:16-17 ESV   I’ve been alive for almost six decades and I still struggle with the “wealth” thing.  The psalmist had the […]

The Ripples of Peace

May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Romans 15:5 NLT   For a number of years, I was a “pot-stirrer” instead of a “peacemaker”.   Although God longs for us to live in peace and harmony, we […]

Time to Break the Mold

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalms 32:8 NLT   I’m more of a “go for it” guy instead of a “guide me” guy.   I recall whitewater rafting in Colorado.  Our guide was very specific in how we […]

The Right Kind of Surrender

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Isaiah 40:29   There are days when being weary, weak and worn out starts to win out and giving in, giving up or giving out seems to be the only way.   We are challenged everyday.  Some are small and some are staggering.   […]

The Right Answer

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1 NLT Words are powerful. Moses tells us that God “spoke” the world into existence. The carefully chosen word can calm conflict. The wrecking word can wage war. Words can hurt or heal. They can agitate or they can appease. Pearl Strachan Hurd […]

The Heart of a Father

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. Luke 15:20 NLT Becoming a dad is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Once I think I have a […]

Serving Others

Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. 2 Corinthians 13:5 The Message   With four daughters . . . and now with a growing […]

Its Not About Me

Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Philippians 2:3-4 MSG   Paul presents two choices.  Two clear options that root themselves focused on […]
