His Endless Love

“The Lord appeared to him from far away, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued My faithfulness to you.”

– Jeremiah 31:3

In 1981, Lionel Richie recorded and released his song “Endless Love” as a duet with Diana Ross. This song has been covered by greats like Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey and Kenny Rogers.  Billboard named it the “Greatest Duet Song” of all time.

The prophet Jeremiah recorded another expression of endless love between God Jehovah and His own people.  God declared His everlasting, unending and unchanging love.  The passionate and purposeful love of God to Israel is the framework of God’s love to us.

His Love Is Permanent.  The psalmist writes, “But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting . . . “, it knows no beginning and no end. (Ps 103:17). Paul describes the unending commitment of God’s compassion, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:38-39)

His Love Is Proactive.  Pastor and author Rick Warren writes, “God is love. He didn’t need us. But he wanted us. And that is the most amazing thing.”  Paul reminds the Christ-followers in Rome, “But, God demonstrated His love in that while we were still against Him, He was for us, loved us and sent Christ to die for us.” (Rom 5:8). Phillips, Craig and Dean sing a powerful song of God being proactive in His love and running after us . . .

“The only time I ever saw him run,

Was when . . . He ran to me.

He took me in His arms, Held my head to His chest,

Said ‘My son’s come home again!’

Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes,

With forgiveness in His voice He said

‘Son, do you know I still love You?’  And, God ran . . .”

His Love Is Powerful.  His love can mend the broken.  His love can restore the ravaged.  His love can piece back together the shattered dreams of our lives.  His love gives hope to the hopeless.  Paul reveals the power of God’s to the believers in Ephesus, “But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)” (Eph 2:4-5).

His Love Is Perpetual.  When we experience God’s love, we have to express it to others.  This perpetuating evidence of passion is simply declared by John in seven succinct words, “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19). His love must be shared.

Many people show their love by giving gifts . . . flowers, candy, cards or jewelry (that could be a lot of love).  God has shown His love in the same way . . . but, His gift was His most loved part of His life.  John records these very familiar words, “God loved us so deeply, that He offered His only true Son as payment for our sins.  Whoever believes in Him and accepts His payment will never cease to exist . . . but will exist for all eternity.” (John 3:16)

As God searched through the little heart-shaped candies that express messages of affection, He found just the right one to give us . . . it says, “Be Mine”.  That’s the kind of love that is endless.
