He Never Lets Go

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but Your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Psalms 94:18-19 NLT

There are days when every step taken is on a slippery slope.  Footing is uncertain and unstable.  There are no places to grab a hold of . . . no security line . . . no safety net.  You know you’re going down . . . It’s just a matter of time.

In our own strength and in our stability . . . there is no solution.

The psalmist shared some of the same feelings.  His friends were now his adversaries.  All that he had created was now condemned.  All that he had built up was now being torn down.  His reputation was on the ruin.  His hope had turned to hopelessness.  David was in the traps of desperation and doubt . . . and, the God of love and hope . . . our God . . . was there to release and refresh him.

He Is There In Desperation.  God’s unfailing love kept the psalmist’s foot from slipping.  The Lord was there providing security, stability and support.  James reminds us of God’s passion as we persevere, “As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”  (Jam 5:11 NIV).  We can also stumble when we shift our focus from God’s compassion to other’s corruption.  Asaph wrote, “But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” (Ps 73:2-3 ESV).  We need to keep our eyes on Him.

His love is unchanging, unfailing and unending.

He Is There In Doubt.  Doubt can destroy our dreams and derail our destiny.  Doubt can weigh us down with the heaviness of uncertainty and unbelief.  The palmist writes, “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” (Ps 94:19 ESV). In another translation, when doubts filled his mind, God’s comfort gave “renewed hope and cheer”.  God’s comfort consoles us in our chaos.  James reminds us, “when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (Jam 1:2-4 NLT).

Motivational author Dale Carnegie wrote, “Inaction breeds doubt and fear.  Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”

Doubt paralyzes us with fear – Faith pushes us with hope.

Feel like you’re slipping?  Grab ahold of God’s almighty hand.  He is there in all your times of desperation and doubt.

He will never let you go.
