I’m Free, Free, Free

“So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins. He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding” – Ephesians 1:6-8

There are days when the freedom we have in Christ seems to be fleeting.  The liberty of life is lost in the looming weight of worry.  Our problems only bring pain.  Our discouragement only brings doubt.

Imprisoned.  Shackled.  Suffering difficulty, hardship and discomfort, Paul rested in God’s grace and not his own grief.  He encouraged the faithful with God’s kindness and grace . . . grace that had been “poured out” on his pain.

As the apostle Paul sat in chains, he wrote to the fully devoted followers of Christ who lived in Ephesus reminding them of the richness of God.

Secured Our Freedom.  Jesus reminds us, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32).  In writing to the faithful in Rome, Paul says, “Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.” (Rom 6:14). The stronghold of the serpent has been severed by our Savior.  The chains have been broken by the blood of Jesus.  We are free.

Sins Are Forgiven.  We are not only free from the power, we are forgiven from the penalty of sin.  There’s an old hymn that reads, “Thank God, I am free, free, free from this world is sin.”  Our sin . . . our shortcomings . . . our internal struggles . . . our yesterday, our today and our tomorrow have been wiped clean.  This is God’s amazing grace.  Paul writes, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” (Eph 2:8)

Showered With Kindness.  The psalmist writes of God’s promised faithfulness to us, “Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from you, nor allow My faithfulness to fail.” (Ps 89:33). He is always kind.  He is always tender.  He is always gracious.  Paul uses the word, “showered” which illustrates a drenching, abundant and satisfying rain.  In the parchness of your day, He will send a shower of kindness.

God has made us free and forgiven through the abundance of his kindness and grace.  Let Him turn your burdens into blessing.  Here are the encouraging lyrics from James McFall,

For a long time I travelled
Down a long lonely road;
My heart was so heavy in sin I sank low.
Then I heard about Jesus,
What a wonderful hour;
I’m so glad that I found out
He could bring me out
Through His saving power.

Like a bird out of prison
That has taken its flight;
Like a blind man that God
Gave back his sight.
Like a poor wretched beggar
That’s found fortune and fame,
I’m so glad that I found out
He could bring me out
Thro’ His holy name.

Thank God I am free, free, free

From this world of sin.

I’ve been washed in the blood of Jesus,

I’ve been born again.

Hallelujah, I’m saved, saved, saved

By His wonderful grace.

I’m so glad that I found out

He could bring me out

And show me the way.
