Since the times of the great Greek philosophers, it has been widely believed that most people could generally perceive the happenings of their surroundings and come to logical cause-and-effect conclusions. Today, we label this ability as common sense. Gun control advocates defy this ability.
Despite history and facts, those who attack our 2nd amendment right to choose strength, to secure peace, and deter criminal violence through self-protection bypass this innate ability to reason. Gun control advocates follow a political agenda of expanding central government power, control and dependency that feeds off of emotional responses to criminal behavior.
It is the lack of common sense to gun control arguments that is most perplexing. In light of the strict definitions of peace, strength and deterrence one should conclude that self- protection is the key to reducing violence and crime. Freedom from fear of violence, the ability to resist being moved or broken, the act of making someone decide to not do something and the act of preventing a particular act or behavior from happening seem pretty straight forward. Does law abiding concealed carrying come to mind?
Perhaps a few questions might prime the pump of common sense in the minds of misguided gun control advocates:
– How and when has the designation “gun free zone” ever prevented or deterred a mentally ill or evil person from harming our innocents?
– Can anyone name a mass school shooting that was committed by an armed teacher, administrator, parent or non-mentally ill student?
– How does disarming military personnel when they are on base, at home or in theater, prevent green on blue attacks?
– For the criminal who has decided to break into your home, perform a carjacking or just plain harm you or your family – how does law enforcement reacting to the crime prevent it?
Peace through strength applies to confronting enemies both foreign and domestic.
