Ready, Willing And Able

“Therefore He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

– Hebrews 7:25 NLT

In 1958, Paul E. Paino wrote these lyrics to a loved chorus . . .

He’s able, He’s able, I know He’s able; I know my Lord is able to carry me through.

He healed the broken-hearted and set the captive free;

He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see.

He’s able, He’s able, I know He’s able; I know my Lord is able to carry me through.

He Is Always Able.  The author of the letter to the Christ-following Jews tells us that “He (Jesus) is able, once and forever . . . “.  He has all ability and capability.  Our Lord lacks nothing.  Our Savior is more than sufficient.  Our Redeemer is ready.  He saves those who come to God, through Him . . . in times past and in times forward.

Paul writes to his young follower Timothy of God’s securing safety, “That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the One in whom I trust, and I am sure that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of His return.” (2 Tim 1:12 NLT)

Paul wrote of Abraham’s faith in God’s promise keeping, “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” (Rom 4:20-21 NLT)

And, to the believers in Ephesus, the apostle validates the power of God, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (Eph 3:20 NLT)

He Is Always Interceding.  The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus “lives forever to intercede with God” on our behalf.  Take a moment to let that sink in.  Jesus is alive and He will live forever.  And, He . . . The Son Of God . . . The Resurrected Christ . . . The Anointed One . . . The Victorious One . . . The King of all Kings . . . Jesus is interceding with God on your behalf.  This may be too definitive . . . but, He is interceding “with” God, not “to” God.  Jesus, the Son and God, the Father are jointly working on your behalf . . . praying, planning, protecting, purposing . . . all for you and all for me.  Jesus’ prayer is recorded by John, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as You are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe you sent Me.” (John 17:20-21 NLT)

An edition of an 1825 newspaper solicited military aids and volunteers were “willing and ready and able”.   Enter confidently into His throne room of grace in your time of need and you will find Jesus ready, willing and able.

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Heb 4:16 NLT)
