“Through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: and by Him all that believe are justified from all things”
– Acts 13:38-39
The Apostle Paul spoke these words as “words of encouragement” to a gathering who thought their religious standards would grant them righteous salvation. Paul was clear and concise. There is salvation in no other name but the name of Jesus. (Act 4:12)
The purpose of Jesus’ life is seen in His death. He willingly shed his blood as the only spotless Sacrificial Lamb of God. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. (Heb 9:22). This was not a temporary solution to cover the sins of our past. No, it was an eternal redemption (Heb 9:12) that washed away our sins . . . past, present and future. We are clean.
The power of Jesus’ death is seen in His resurrection. It would have been an incomplete plan had freedom not come with forgiveness. So many today feel the burden of their sin. They carry the weight of past failures. Guilt has overshadowed grace. Once we have been cleansed, there is no longer any condemnation in Christ (Rom 8:1) With our forgiveness of sin there is freedom from sin. We are changed.
The cross gave us forgiveness . . . the empty tomb gave us freedom. Allow God’s Word to remind you that you have been cleansed and changed.
Forgiveness of sin.
“For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You.” (Psalm 86:5 ESV)
“For this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28 ESV)
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,” (Ephesians 1:7 ESV)
“In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:14 ESV)
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 ESV)
Freedom from sin.
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” (John 8:31-32 ESV)
“and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” (Romans 6:18 ESV)
“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2 ESV)
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 ESV)
“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1 Peter 2:16 ESV)
Our Eternal debt has been discharged and we have been delivered. Walk today . . . in the provision of forgiveness and power of freedom.
